I Want To Break Free (1984)
UTTERLY ICONIC. I don’t think I need to explain how and why I love this. Freddie Mercury - icon, legend, respected musical genius - flouncing through that doorway, in full drag, vacuum in hand, is an image that is ingrained into the subconscious of the British public. It’s part of our national identity, a piece of pop culture the British people will forever hold dear in our hearts. Daring, provoking, hilarious. The idea started life as a Coronation Street tribute/parody; it became something far better. How could anybody not appreciate this, the video that gave us Rogerina in her true natural form?
British actor Simon Pegg was originally set to play Lt. Archie Hicox but was forced to pull out of the project because of scheduling conflicts. Michael Fassbender replaced him.
